Cowgirls Host Missouri State


Oklahoma State’s 19th-ranked softball team will host the Missouri State Bears on Tuesday, April 5, at 5 pm at the Cowgirl Softball Complex. The Cowgirls defeated 1-0 earlier this season in Springfield thanks to a sacrifice fly by Tamara Brown.

Oklahoma State is 29-9 overall this season after being swept last weekend by the eighth-ranked Texas Longhorns. The Cowgirls are led by the school’s all-time home run hitter in junior Julie Ward. The first baseman has 31 career home runs and is batting .377 this season with 39 runs batted in. Cowgirl third baseman Mariah Gearhart is the all-time leading scorer in softball history with 169 career runs. She is also tied for the school record with her 108 stolen bases.

In the circle, Kat Espinosa leads the Cowgirl pitching staff with a 15-4 record and a 2.31 earned run average. Freshman Simone Freeman, who started the game against Missouri State on March 22, is 8-5 with a 2.07 . The two combined for a four-hit shutout of the Bears.

Oklahoma State is 26-6 all-time against Missouri State, including a 13-2 mark in Stillwater. has won the last seven meetings, although nine of the last 10 games have been decided by two or fewer runs.
