Cowgirls Shut Out St. Gregory’s, 1-0
Stillwater, Okla. — With one out in the bottom of the second, sophomore leftfielder Amy Graham drove the ball through the left side of the infield, scoring junior Chelsea Garcia from second base as the Oklahoma State Cowgirl softball team defeated St. Gregory’s 1-0 here Wednesday night in fall scrimmage action. The win improved ’s mark to 5-0 this fall.
Garcia, the starting shortstop from Moore, Okla., had a base hit to left field before stealing second. Graham then hit the ball on an 0-1 count past the outstretched glove of shortstop Blair Brooks, giving the only run of the game.
The Cowgirl pitching staff was effective as three different hurlers entered the pitching circle. Freshman Morgan Hawkins started and threw two hitless innings, giving up just one walk while striking out one. Senior Sarah Odom started the third and allowed both Lady Cavalier hits while striking out two in the third and fourth innings. Freshman Simone Freeman, an Australia native, hit the first batter she faced, then mowed down nine-consecutive hitters, striking out four, to pick up the save.
Oklahoma State will travel to Fayetteville, Ark., this Saturday for a doubleheader with the Lady Razorbacks. The twinbill begins at 1 pm.
