Cowgirls Tennis Earn All-Conference Honors

IRVING, Texas — Three members of the Oklahoma State women’s tennis team were honored by the league office on Wednesday with the announcement of the All-Big 12 awards.

In a vote of league coaches, Cowgirl junior Sarah Meghoufel was named the Big 12 Newcomer of the Year, while sophomore Alisa Buslaieva and senior Nataliya Shatkovskaya received all-conference honors for their work in doubles play.

A native of Oran, Algeria, Meghoufel finished her first season in Stillwater with a 9-2 mark at the No. 4 spot to earn co-Big 12 singles champion status. Overall, she finished the year with a 20-5 mark in dual matches. Meghoufel became the first Cowgirl in league history to be named the league’s top newcomer.

Buslaieva and Shatkovskaya were one of seven doubles teams to receive all-league plaudits after compiling a 7-2 mark on the year. The honor marked the second time Shatkovskaya has been named to the All-Big 12 squad after earning the distinction her freshman season.

The All-Big 12 tennis teams and awards are selected by the league’s head coaches, who are not allowed to vote for their own student-athletes.
