Cowgirls Wrap Up Air Force Invitational
COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – The Oklahoma State women’s tennis team finished play at its third fall event of the year Sunday, highlighted by Malika Rose’s win in the consolation final of the Alpha singles bracket.
Rose, a sophomore from Miramar, Fla., lost a tough first set in the match against New Mexico’s Anya Villanueva, but stormed back to earn the win, 5-7, 6-1, 10-8.
In another championship singles match, Alisa Buslaieva competed against Iowa State’s Maria Macedo in the Bravo bracket final, but fell, 6-3, 6-4.
Allison Burkhartt also competed in the singles brackets, defeating Trudie du Toit of Oregon, 6-0, 6-4, in consolation play.
The Cowgirls also had a shot at the championship in the No. 2 doubles bracket, as Burkartt teamed with Leyla Simmons to face Arizona’s tandem of Lacey Smyth and Kim Stubbe. The Cowgirls played a tight match, but eventually fell 8-6.
Buslaieva and Rose also teamed together for doubles play, as they knocked off Colorado State’s Caitlin Fluegge and Veronika Wojakowska, 8-4, in consolation play of the No. 1 bracket.
Oklahoma State resumes play at the ITA Regional, held in Fayetteville, Ark., Oct. 21-24.
