Crescendo Music Awards Presented February 22-24


Talented musicians will compete for $34,500 in awards money when the eighth annual Crescendo Music Awards will be presented Feb. 22 through 24.

The competition will feature divisions including piano, brass and woodwinds, strings and voice.

Deadline for entries is Feb. 1 and is open to high school, university and music school students from anywhere in the world. Students can get complete information and entry forms on the Crescendo Music Awards website www.CrescendoMusicAwards.com.

The program, which is produced annually by the Rotary Club of Tulsa, was conceived in 1998 by Rotarian Joseph Bias. The first year 11 students applied and awards totaling $2,100 were presented. By the end of the eighth season a total of 406 students have applied and $139,400 in cash awarded.

The finals will be held at the Van Trease Performing Arts Center for Education at Tulsa Community College. Judges will be Dr. Frank Ryan, Dr. Leonard Garrison and Vernon Howard, brass and woodwinds division; Dr. Sam Adler, Paul Ledington Wright and Ron Wheeler, strings; Don Ryan, Anita Pontremoli and Tony Caramia, piano; and Dr. Esther Jane Hardenbergh, Dr. Ed Pierce and Chief Judge Joseph Bias, voice.
