Daily Police Report: Kidnapping and Robbery top the Bill

Kidnapping / Burglary / Domestic AWDW

Officers responded to a report of a domestic assault with a

deadly weapon in progress Monday.  The caller, later identified as nine-

year-old child in the residence where the purported crime was being committed, informed dispatch that the suspect had sprayed her mother in the face with an unknown substance. The suspect was later identified as Allen Shields.

The child informed dispatch that she was hiding in her bedroom and that she could hear

her mother screaming.  She then told dispatch that officers needed to enter the house

immediately or she feared that the suspect would kill both her and her mother.

An entry team consisting of several officers made entry into the house and took the

suspect into custody. The traumatized victim and her daughter were rescued from the

residence and placed into a nearby patrol unit. Officers later discovered a black semi-

automatic handgun, canister of pepper spray, particulate mask, pepper spray

decontamination wipes and a set of silver handcuffs.

Further investigation also revealed that Shields had forced entry into the residence earlier in the day and had been waiting for the victim to return.  When the victim returned and opened the doors to the utility room, Shields immediately sprayed her in the face with OC spray.  He then threatened her life

repeatedly until officers made entry and intervened.

The child in this situation no doubt equipped our officers with the information needed to

intervene and possibly saved her and her mother’s life.

Armed Robbery

On Monday, a man entered the Walgreens store at 1440 South Lewis Ave and robbed it with a kitchen knife. The loss was cash from the cash register.

The suspect fled the store and drove away in an unknown make or model vehicle. The suspect

is a w/m 5’2″ to 5’8″, 135 to 160 pounds, 25 to 35 years old and was unshaven. He was

wearing a black stocking cap, brown overcoat, blue jeans and white tennis shoes.
