Dfest Names Keynote Speaker
Oklahoma’s largest music conference and festival has announced the keynote speaker for the upcoming Dfest conference to be held in Tulsa in the Blue Dome district July 27-28. Ken Abdo, is part of the Grammy Foundation. He is the National Chairman of the Recording Academy’s Entertainment Law Initiative (ELI). The Recording Academy is the presenter of the Grammy® Awards and ELI is a part of the Grammy® Foundation. ELI’s executive committee is comprised of the nation’s most prominent music lawyers and is the music/lawyer wing of the Recording Academy.
A record number of over 750 artists were submitted to Dfest this year. Due to the high volume of entries Dfest has increased the amount of artists that will perform from 130 to 150. Oklahoma will represent a little over 50 percent of the showcasing artists.
Tulsa Young Professionals has chosen Dfest as one of its signature events. In doing so they are providing Dfest with 100 volunteers, which is an important component in putting this event together.
The next five headlining artists for Dfest have been released. Black Stone Cherry, Ludo, Absent Star, Stars of Track and Field and the Honorary Title will join the Flaming Lips and other Dfest headlining artists and music industry buzz bands. Unsigned and emerging artists have received their invitations to showcase at Dfest and the confirmations are rolling in. Expect to see the list of emerging and unsigned artists that were selected from over 750 entries to showcase at Dfest 2007 in the coming weeks.
Tickets for Dfest are on sale now but there will only be 35,000 tickets sold. Dfest is a gated event and with the limited amount of tickets for sale, this event is on its way to being a sold-out festival.
Dfest will bring approximately 35,000 music fans to downtown Tulsa for the sounds of more than 150 bands from throughout the region. Spanning over 20 genres of music across 13 stages, the two-day festival is an opportunity for emerging artists to showcase their talent, with numerous representatives of the music industry in attendance.
An official Oklahoma Centennial event, Dfest is endorsed by Mayor of Tulsa Kathy Taylor, Tulsa Young Professionals, Tulsa Metro Chamber and the Oklahoma Department of Tourism. Cox Communications and Quick Trip are sponsors of the event.
