Drillers Ready for Farewell Season

ROUNDING THIRD: The Tulsa Drillers head into their last leg at Driller Park. The team, with ONEOK, is planning many festivities to commemorate the final season at the Expo Square.
With a new broadcaster, a returning coach, an amazing corporate sponsor and the final season at Driller Stadium, this looks to be one fantastic year.
The Drillers have officially announced that ONEOK will be the presenting sponsor of the “Farewell Season at Drillers Stadium.”
The Drillers are planning several activities, promotions and giveaways to highlight the 29-year history of Drillers Stadium. Originally Sutton Stadium, the park has been the home of Drillers Baseball since the 1981 season. It is currently the oldest stadium in the Texas League and has been the home for past Drillers stars such as Sammy Sosa, Ivan Rodriguez, Hank Blalock, Matt Holliday and Jeff Francis.
The Drillers will open the 2009 season with a six-game road trip before returning to begin their home slate on Thursday, April 16 against Corpus Christi. The Opening Weekend will feature the first of ten post-game Fireworks Shows that are scheduled for the season. The initial show will follow the game on Saturday, April 18.
As part of its season-long involvement, ONEOK will present three special events during the final season. The first of these events will occur during the second homestand when the first 1,000 fans to the game on Friday, May 1 will receive replicas of the current Drillers Stadium. Another unique item will be given away by ONEOK on Saturday, June 27. The first 1,500 fans will receive an exact replica of the Drillers Stadium scoreboard and video board. The final item will be given to the first 1,500 fans attending the final regular season game at Drillers Stadium on Labor Day – Monday, September 7. Each fan will receive special, commemorative Final Game tickets. The ceramic tickets will come in Final Game, keepsake boxes. The last game will be the conclusion to a Final Weekend at the stadium. The weekend will begin with a giveaway of replicas of the original Sutton Stadium on Friday, September 5. The final fireworks Show at Drillers Stadium will follow the game on Sunday, Sept. 6.
There will also be other special events throughout the season to honor the stadium’s part in Tulsa’s professional baseball history. Visit www.tulsadrillers.com to keep up to date.
