Ducks Add Texas Transfer Marcus Davis
EUGENE, Ore. — Former University of Texas defensive back Marcus Davis has enrolled in summer classes at the University of Oregon and will transfer into the school’s football program, head coach Chip Kelly confirmed Wednesday.
Davis was credited with 10 tackles, including one quarterback sack, in eight games as a true freshman for the Longhorns in 2009. He will not be eligible to participate in any games this season while fulfilling one year in residency at Oregon per transfer regulations, however he will be allowed to take part in all other team activities and practices while receiving a scholarship immediately.
He will have three years to complete three seasons of eligibility, beginning with the 2011 season.
The Texas native was a prep All-American at Clear Creek High School (League City, Texas) and was ranked among ESPN’s top 150 national prospects before enrolling at Texas in time to participate in its 2009 spring drills. He participated in the 2009 U.S. Army All-America Bowl after accumulating 179 tackles, eight interceptions and five blocked kicks during his final three high school seasons. Davis also returned six kicks for touchdowns during his prep tenure in addition to being rated the nation’s eighth-best cornerback recruit following the 2008 season.
The three-time high school all-district defensive back pick also won district championships in the 110-meter hurdles and long jump as a three-year track and field letterman.
