Dunn Leads ORU to Series Sweep Over Oakland, 4-2

Dunn, a senior from Carrolton, Texas, recorded a stellar performance in his first appearance of the season, striking out seven batters and walking just three.
The Golden Eagles were held without a hit until Seth Furmanek doubled in the bottom of the fourth inning to jumpstart the ORU offense. After an error scored Furmanek,Brett Sowers followed with a single through the left side to put the Golden Eagles up 2-0. In the next at bat, Bennett Pickar singled through the left side to push the advantage to 3-0.
Two innings later, Pickar drilled his first collegiate homer over the left field fence to round out the scoring for the Golden Eagles.
ORU was able to escape bases-loaded jams in both the eigth and ninth innings. With Dallas Beelermaking his first relief appearance of the season, the Golden Grizzlies loaded the bases with three consecutive singles and scored a run on an error. Beeler then struck out the side to escape any further damage.
The following inning, Oakland led off with three singles in a row before Sean Johnson induced a double play and a groundout to earn his second consecutive save.
Oakland’s Matt LaMothe picked up the loss in a strong outing, allowing one earned run on seven hits in 7.0 innings with nine strikeouts ane one walk.
The Golden Eagles return to play against UALR at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday night at J.L. Johnson Stadium.
