Eight Prep All-Americans Highlight Oregon’s 2011 Recruiting Class
EUGENE, Ore. — University of Oregon head football coach Chip Kelly announced the Ducks’ 2011 recruiting class Tuesday, welcoming 21 prep student-athletes and two junior college standouts to Eugene.
Oregon signed 13 players on offense, nine on defense and one athlete to National Letter of Intents, including eight high school All-Americans – the most in a single recruiting class in program history. Of the 23 signees, 17 were rated as four-star prospects or higher by at least one major recruiting service.
Wide receiver and offensive line were two areas the Ducks stocked up on, signing five players to each position group, including Hillsboro (Ore.) High School’s Colt Lyerla, a five-star recruit who will begin his collegiate career as a wideout. Oregon also addressed needs on defense, signing five linebackers and three defensive linemen.
Los Angeles athlete De’Anthony Thomas, who prepped at Crenshaw High School, was added to UO’s 2011 class late in the day, giving the Ducks a second five-star recruit for the first time. Thomas, the Los Angeles City Section player of the year as a running back and cornerback, was rated as the nation’s No. 1 athlete (Lyerla was No. 2) by Rivals.com, and the No. 1 cornerback prospect by Scout.com.
The 2011 class represents eight different states with multiple student-athletes coming from Arizona, California, Hawaii, Iowa, Oregon and Texas.
