Emily Barkley Named Oklahoma Interscholastic Athletic Administrators Association President

Union Athletics Director Emily Barkley has been named president of the Oklahoma Interscholastic Athletic Administrators Association (OIAAA).
“I am excited to serve our professional organization in this capacity for the 2020-2021 school year. I am blessed to have been a part of the OIAAA board for the last 10 years. The relationships I have built with my colleagues as well as the platform we have to help athletic directors grow in our state is what I have enjoyed most,” Barkley said. “I look forward to working with our sport-specific advisory groups as well as the OSSAA to continue to make educated decisions in the best interest of our student-athletes, coaches and school communities. I realize we are in unprecedented times but I am optimistic about the challenges ahead.”
Barkley was named director of athletics for Union Public Schools in 2012 after serving as associate and assistant director of Athletics since 2004. Barkley was elected as a board member of the Oklahoma Interscholastic Athletic Administrators Association serving as secretary from 2011-2014 and as treasurer from 2011-2019. She served as president-elect for the 2019-2020 school year and began her term as president of the state’s athletic director organization on June 16.
Barkley is recognized by the National Interscholastic Athletic Administrators Association (NIAAA) as one of Oklahoma’s very few Certified Master Athletic Administrators (CMAA), the highest level of certification an athletic director can obtain. She previously earned Certified Athletic Administrator (CAA) and Registered Athletic Administrator (RAA) distinctions.
Barkley is a member of the NIAAA, the OIAAA, the Northeast Oklahoma Athletic Directors Association and the Oklahoma Coaches Association (OCA). Barkley also currently serves as the treasurer for the Frontier Valley Conference. In 2011, Barkley was the first female elected to a two-year term as a Board Member and Region 7 representative for the OCA.
