Much talk and writing has taken place over the years on how to develop the Arkansas River throughout the Tulsa area. While most people are waiting for some government agency to take action, Tulsa-area builder and developer Jerry R. Gordon took it upon himself to build the RiverWalk Crossing, an amazingly successful development on the west bank of the river in Jenks that recently held its grand opening. Ground was broken on the project in 2003, and while many people didn’t give the project much chance at first, opinions changed as the architecture and signage took place, all about the same time that the nearby Oklahoma Aquarium was becoming a popular destination.

Retail establishments in the RiverWalk Crossing are doing extremely well, including two restaurants, the Melting Pot and Los Cabos, with its outdoor bar area where many customers get the feeling they are in the Caribbean.

Gordon says that his project will expand, and by September a 45,000 square-foot, eight-screen RiverWalk Movies should be completed. The RiverWalk Movies building will have 2,600 square feet of space for small restaurants and gaming facilities for people waiting on their movie to start.

Once the theatre is finished, Gordon plans to move to Phase 2 of development, including San Francisco-style trolleys, a national chain bookstore and even water transportation.
As an old saying goes, “Nothing Ventured, Nothing Gained.” Thank you, Jerry Gordon, for your successful venture.
