Miss Helen’s Private School in Tulsa is celebrating 60 years this year, with a host of activities to honor alumni, students and faculty to celebrate and honor the memory of the original “Miss Helen Wingo,” who founded the school in 1954. Today, her daughter-in-law Lynda Wingo administers the school and Lynda’s daughter Jayme Wingo-Martin works with her.

There is a fourth generation as well. Jayme’s daughter Brooke is in the fifth grade at Miss Helen’s Private School. They are inviting all generations who have been a part of Miss Helen’s Private School over the years to join in their official 60th Anniversary Celebration, which will begin in March and continue through September. Events will include:

March 28: Father & Daughter “Moustache Bash” Dance. This is a student father-daughter dance.

April 4: Mother & Son Rockin’ Roller Skate – a special night for boys and their moms.

April 10: 60th Day of the School’s 60th Year Celebration. Each student will bring a can of play-dough in the morning. At 8 a.m., they will begin building a 60-pound ball of play-dough. This will be followed by a special “Flash Mob” on the soccer field featuring the entire student body performing the 1954 hit song “Sh-Boom.” The celebration will be capped off by burying a special time capsule.

September 4: 60th Anniversary Gala at the Hard Rock Hotel. Governor Mary Fallin has been invited to attend as well as Miss Helen’s Private School alumnus Paula Marshall, of Bama Pie, and LeAnne Taylor, morning anchor on “6 in the Morning.”

September 26: “Boots and Bling.” This is a fun event for all at the Tulsa Event Center

In addition to celebrating “our never-ending story,” Miss Helen’s Private School is inviting all friends and family to purchase a commemorative brick. The decorative bricks can be personalized with a name, date, business logo or personal message. They will be positioning the bricks at the entrance of the school. A 4 × 8 brick will sell for $90 and an 8 × 8 brick is $150.00.
