Federal Funds Available for Emergency Food and Shelter Programs
Private 501©3 non-profit organizations interested in applying for Emergency Food and Shelter Program funds must contact Tulsa Area United Way for an application. To do so, send your request for a Tulsa, Creek and/or Wagoner County application with your mailing or email address to , Attn: Chris Mills, Local Board Contact, 1430 S. Boulder Ave., Tulsa OK 74119 or by email at cmills@tauw.org or via fax to 582-5588. Note: Funds allocated to a jurisdiction are to be used for residents of that jurisdiction. An agency that serves clients from more than one county can receive funding from more than one jurisdiction, but only by applying to each jurisdiction separately.
Under the terms of the grant from the National Board, local organizations chosen to receive funds must:
1) Be private voluntary nonprofits or units of government
2) Have an accounting system
3) Practice nondiscrimination
4) Have demonstrated the capability to deliver a year-round emergency food and/or shelter program
5) Must have a voluntary board (if it is a private voluntary organization, and
6) Must provide backup documentation (receipts) at the end of each financial award process
Qualifying organizations are urged to apply.
Awards to three local counties (Tulsa, Creek and Wagoner) will be announced by a National Board that is chaired by the Federal Emergency Management Agency () with United Way of America providing the administrative staff and functioning as fiscal agent. Each county has a Local Board made up of representatives from local affiliates of the National Board organizations, with Tulsa Area United Way providing the administrative staff. Each local board will determine how the funds awarded to that county will be distributed among the emergency food and shelter programs run by local service organizations. Awards for this fiscal year include: $261,036 for Tulsa County and $34,049 for Creek County. Although a specific amount for Wagoner County has not yet been received, last year’s award amount was $10,038.
