Four Cowgirl Netters Named to All-Big 12 Academic Team
Oklahoma State women’s tennis players Sara Meghoufel, Nataliya Shatkovskaya, Leyla Simmons and Malika Rose were named to the 2011 All-Big 12 Academic Women’s Tennis Team, the league announced on Tuesday.
Meghoufel, a senior majoring in Aviation Management, Shatkovskaya, a senior majoring in International Studies, and Simmons, a sophomore majoring in Hotel and Restaurant Management, were each named to the first team. Rose, a sophomore majoring in Business administration, was named to the second team.
This is the second time Shatkovskaya, who is studying to earn her master’s degree in trade and development, has been named to the All-Big 12 Academic Team, as she was named to the second team last season. It is the first such honor for Meghoufel, Simmons and Rose.
First team members consist of those who have maintained a 3.20 or better , while second team honorees are those who have a 3.00 to 3.19 . To qualify, student-athletes must maintain a 3.00 or higher either cumulative or the two previous semesters and must have participated in 60 percent of their team’s scheduled contests.
Freshmen and transfers are not eligible in their first year of academic residence. Senior student athletes who have participated for a minimum of two years and meet all the criteria except percent of participation are also eligible.
