Four Tulsa Track Athletes Named to ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District Teams


TULSA, Okla. – Four members of the Tulsa track and field teams were named to the The Magazine Academic All-District VI Teams, as selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).

Seniors Alex Becker, Caitlin Clancy and John Beattie were selected to the first team, while junior Jennifer Mace was named to the second team.

Becker is making her second Academic All-District First Team appearance after being named to the squad in 2007. The senior from Guelph, Ontario, carries a 3.69 grade point average in elementary education, and finished her career this season as the school’s only six-time All-American and an eight-time Conference individual champion.

Clancy is a repeat All-District First Team selection after posting a perfect 4.0 in mechanical engineering. In 2009, she was named a Rhodes Scholar finalist and was selected to the The Magazine Academic All-America Third Team. The senior from Tuscon, Ariz., completed her career as the school record holder in the indoor and outdoor pole vault and was a three-time all-C- selection.

Beattie was named to the men’s first team after earning a 3.50 in the master’s of business administration program. The senior from Southampton, England, is a 2008 Cross Country All-American, a seven-time C- individual champion and a four-time C- Athlete of the Year. He will run in the 10,000m at the Championships next weekend in Eugene, Ore.

Mace earned second team honors with a 3.84 in exercise sports science. The Owasso, Okla., native is a 10-time all-C- selection and a four-time C- individual champion including three titles this year in the indoor 400m, indoor 4×400m relay and outdoor 4×400m relay.

Beattie, Becker and Clancy are now eligible for The Magazine Academic All-America nomination after earning first team all district honors.
