Frierson Named NSCAA Women’s College Scholar Athlete of the Year
Katy Frierson (Auburn/Homewood, Ala.) stood out on the field and in the classroom to claim women’s Scholar Athlete of the Year honors from the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA). She is among the 76 senior college players named to the 2010 NSCAA Women’s Collegiate Scholar All-America Team.
A semifinalist for the Missouri Athletic Club’s Hermann Trophy, the junior midfielder maintains a 3.91 grade point average in political science. A three-time All-SEC selection, she scored eight goals and had 12 assists for 28 points. She was named the NSCAA National Player of the Week on Sept. 6 when she scored the overtime goal that propelled Auburn over then-No. 5 Florida State.
NCAA Division III national champion Hardin-Simmons placed four players on the College Division (non-NCAA Division I schools) to have the most representatives on the team. Four schools had three players selected: College of Saint Rose, Marquette, Northern Arizona and Trinity (Texas). Six players named to the team had perfect 4.0 grade point averages.
