GAST Hosts Christkindlmarkt

Christkindlmarkt is a traditional Christmas market in cities and towns throughout Germany, the oldest and most prominent being held in Nürnberg for more than 400 years.

Erected in the village city centers, they represent a festive marketplace for residents and visitors to shop for Christmas gifts, homemade items by local craftsmen, and specialty food items and treats appropriate to the season.

The German American Society of Tulsa () sets up its annual Christkindlmarkt at the Center at 15th Street and Terrace Drive (1 block west of Lewis Avenue) from Dec. 6 – 8.  For those three days, the beautifully decorated center becomes a Christmas wonderland, transporting visitors to a much earlier and more distant time and place.

Dozens of crafters and vendors offer nutcrackers, imported Christmas tree ornaments, and a huge selection of Christmas items in addition to tasty German treats, such as Germany’s incomparable Christmas Stollen and traditional German foods from wurst to kartoffelpuffer, hot apple cider, hot chocolate and coffees.  The Christkindl and St. Nikolaus walk among the booths to the delight of the children, and there is also a special spielstube or play area for the kids with hands-on activities and treats.

Good food, fine crafts, and traditional German music and entertainment make Christkindlmarkt a great beginning or ending to Tulsa Christmas shopping this year.
