Golden Eagles Compete at Texas Relays


AUSTIN, Texas – The Oral Roberts men’s and women’s track and field team posted five top-five finishes over the weekend at the 83rd Annual Clyde Littfield Texas Relays in Austin.

ORU senior Rachel Talbert (Newton, Kan.) led the Golden Eagles with a third-place showing in the discus throw (section A) with a mark of 51.74 meters. Talbert’s throw currently ranks seventh nationally.

LaTanya Short (Grandview, Mo.) continued her strong junior season with two fourth-place finishes. Short posted a mark of 5.92 meters in the long jump (section B), while recording a mark of 12.32 meters in the triple jump (section B).

On the men’s side, freshmen Jack Whitt (Norman, Okla.) andDustin Gehrke (Jay, Okla.) turned in top-five showings in the pole vault event. Whitt placed fourth among section A pole vaulters with a mark of 5.41 meters, which currently ranks fourth nationally. Gehrke posted a fourth-place finish in the section B event with the nation’s 28th-best mark of 5.11 meters.

The Golden Eagles return to action next weekend at the John McDonnell Invitational in Fayetteville, Ark.
