Golden Eagles Fall in Slugfest to UALR, 13-9

TULSA – UALR scored four runs in the top of the ninth inning to top Oral Roberts by a score of 13-9 on Tuesday night at J.L. Johnson Stadium. The Golden Eagles dropped to 16-14 overall, while the Trojans improved to 21-14.

ORU pounded out 16 hits in the contest, as Nick Baligodposted a 4-for-5 performance at the plate and Chris Elderand Bennett Pickar each tallied three hits. 

With the contest tied going into the ninth inning, Tyson Park drew a leadoff walk, and advanced to third on a throwing error on the next at bat. After an intentional walk, Tim Emmons was hit by a pitch to score the go-ahead run. Brock Feldmann then lined a single down the right-field line to score two and a groundout the following at bat rounded out the scoring.

The Golden Eagles got on the board first with two runs in the opening inning. Baligod roped a two-out double to left center and Elder singled up the middle two batters later for the first run. Robert Barbosa then followed with a single through the left side for the game’s second run.

The Trojans coaxed three straight walks to lead off the second inning en route to four runs, but ORU battled back to plate three in the bottom of the frame. Baligod hit a two-out single up the middle to drive in a run, and Seth Furmanek followed by crushing a bomb over the left field wall that was later called foul. After returning to the plate, Furmanek hit a single through the left side to score two.

UALR answered with a five-run third inning to take a 9-5 lead. The Trojans laid down three bunt singles in the inning and were aided by two ORU errors.

The Golden Eagles added a run in the fifth inning off a Colby Price sacrifice fly, and knotted the contest with three runs in the bottom of the seven inning. Tyler Garewal plated a run with a sacrifice fly and Baligod posted his fouth hit of the night to score two runs.

ORU was unable to score again, missing an opportunity in the bottom of the eight inning with runners on second and third and only one out.

The Golden Eagles return to play this weekend at Southern Utah.
