Golden Eagles Take Game One From Oakland, 12-6

TULSA – The Oral Roberts University baseball team scored nine of its 12 runs with two outs in the first game of Saturday’s doubleheader for a 12-6 victory over Oakland at J.L. Johnson Stadium. 

Brett Sowers highlighted play at the plate for the Golden Eagles, going a perfect 4-for-4 with 3 RBIs, while Colby Pricealso drove in three with a 2-for-4 performance.

Seth Furmanek logged 5.1 strong innings on the mound to earn his third victory of the season. Furmanek allowed one earned run on six hits with four strikeouts and two walks.

The Golden Eagles (14-13, 2-0) got on the board in the bottom of the first when Jared Schlehuber drilled a two-out home run to left center field to put ORU up 2-0. The following inning, Sowers smashed a two-run shot to left center with two outs to give the Golden Eagles a 4-0 advantage. 

Sowers drove in his third run of the game in the bottom of the fourth inning with a two-out single to plate P.J. Sequeira, who led off the frame with a double to left center. ORU added two more runs in the inning when Tyler Saladino singled up the middle.

The Golden Eagles would plate five more runs in the following two innings to put the contest out of reach.

ORU faces Oakland in the second game of Saturday’s twinbill at 6:15 p.m.
