Golden Hurricane Sweeps Cyclones To Win Ninth-Straight Match

TULSA, Okla. – The No. 22-ranked University of Tulsa women’s tennis team won its ninth-straight match with a 7-0 victory over Iowa State University Sunday afternoon at Case Tennis Center.

Tulsa (14-2) and Iowa State (9-5) both had not lost since Feb. 11, and it was the Golden Hurricane who had the upper hand over the Cyclones, who had their seven-match win streak snapped.

Doubles action started strong as the Golden Hurricane duo of junior Bonny Davidson and sophomore Michelle Farley defeated Liza Wischer and Jenna Langhorst 8-4 at No. 3 doubles.

Seniors Alexandra Kichoutkin and Jo-Anne Karaitiana dropped Maria Macedo and Tessa Lang 8-4 to clinch the doubles point for the home side from the top of the order. Juniors Ewa Szatkowska and Anastasia Erofeeva won the last five games to come back and defeat Simona Cacciuttolo and Erin Karonis 8-5 from the second position.

Szatkowska and Erofeeva improved to 13-1 during the dual campaign and have now won 11-straight matches.

Freshman Sam Vickers put TU ahead 2-0 with a 6-0, 6-0 sweep of Wischer from No. 6 singles, and Szatkowska gave Tulsa a 3-0 edge after defeating Cacciuttolo 6-0, 6-2 from the fourth position.

Farley won 6-2, 6-4 at No. 3 singles over Lang to clinch the win for the Golden Hurricane, and Erofeeva took down Karonis 6-3, 6-4 at the second spot.

Karaitiana and Kichoutkin rounded out the 7-0 victory with wins at No. 5 and No. 1 singles, respectively. Karaitiana defeated Chartier 6-4, 6-2, and Kichoutkin dropped Macedo 6-2, 7-5.

Farley is now 15-1 during the spring after winning her eighth-straight match, and Vickers improved to 9-1 in 2011 with her seventh-consecutive victory.

Next up for Tulsa will be a road match against at 3 p.m. March 18.
