Gonzaga on Cowboy Basketball Slate
Stillwater, Okla. — Oklahoma State’s basketball team has signed a home-and-home contract with Gonzaga, it was announced today by head coach Travis Ford. The Cowboys will travel to Spokane, Wash., for a New Year’s Eve contest with the Bulldogs this winter in the McCarthey Athletic Center.
“We are excited to schedule this home-and-home series with Mark Few and his Gonzaga Bulldogs,” Ford said. “Gonzaga has a great program with a lot of tradition. We look forward to starting this series with the Bulldogs, and giving us one of the better non-conference schedules.”
Gonzaga will return the favor during the 2012-13 season, marking the Bulldogs’ first-ever appearance inside Gallagher-Iba Arena. A date has yet to be determined.
“Our goal is to schedule quality non-conference opponents every season,” Ford said. “This not only prepares our team for the grueling Big 12 schedule, but it also gives our fans an opportunity to see some very good teams inside one of the best basketball venues in America.
“We’ve got the ball rolling in the right direction. We’re working on getting a marquee opponent to come into Gallagher-Iba Arena every single season. We want to challenge our players with a difficult non-conference schedule and give our fans the opportunity to see these marquee teams.”
The Cowboys have Stanford of the Pac-10 Conference coming to Stillwater this season as part of the Big 12/Pac-10 Hardwood Series. That game is scheduled for Tues., Dec. 21.
Oklahoma State is 0-3 all-time against Gonzaga, with all three meetings taking place on neutral courts. and the Bulldogs faced each other in the 2004 All-College Classic in Oklahoma City, and played the following fall in Seattle at Key Arena. The most recent meeting between and the Zags was in the 2008 Old Spice Classic in Kissimmee, Fla.
