OK Mozart’s St. Paddy’s Day/March Madness Party a’Comin’
KILKENNEY ROAD BAND: Oklahoma’s Kilkenny Road band, which specializes in Irish tunes, is comprised of Bud Gustin, percussion, cymbals, drums; Emily Elkins, whistles, flute, vocals; Glen Schmidt, mandolin, fiddle and hammer dulcimer; and Cole Runnels, guitar and vocals. From the moment Kilkenny Road strikes up an Irish jig for OK Mozart’s first-ever St. Paddy’s Day/March Madness party, there will be no doubt it’s time for wearin’o the green. Set for Bartlesville Community Center from 7-10 p.m., March 14, party plans call for a traditional Irish meal along with the live music and some special surprises.
Fearing that a St. Paddy’s celebration might be edged out by the NCAA March Madness playoffs, OKM’s special events co-chairs Linda Jones and Tawny Saddoris decided the solution was to combine the two spirited events. Along with beer, wine and an official whisky tasting, there will also be a giant-screen viewing of the basketball game, plus innovative March Madness games for those attending.
Best news of all: at the St. Paddy’s Day/March Madness Party, there will also be an easy lesson on how to do the Irish jig. Another thing to keep Irish eyes smiling will be a live auction hyped by artful auctioneer Roger Skelly.
OKM’s artistic director Maestro Constantine Kitsopoulos – master chef as well as nationally renowned conductor, whose musical experiences span the worlds of opera and symphony in such venues as Carnegie Hall, Alice Tully Hall and Royal Albert Hall, will plan the menu and cook dinner himself for the bidder’s party of 20 at the historic Foster Ranch south of Bartlesville. The legendary ranch home is being made available courtesy of David Preston, grandson of its original owner, oil baron H.V. Foster, who founded the Indian Territory Illuminating Oil Company once based in Bartlesville.
