Greater Tulsa Reporter Wins Two National Awards

COMMUNITY SERVICE: The GTR Community Calendar, compiled and designed by Art Director Bryan Cantrell, was recognized for its artwork and service to the community.


The Greater Tulsa Reporter Newspapers received two coveted national awards from the Independent Free Papers of America at the IFPA annual conference, held this year in Boston, Mass. Sept. 12-16. GTR Newspapers won four awards at the 2005 conference held in Minneapolis and won four awards at the 2006 conference held in Hershey, Pa.

GTR Newspapers, established in 1993, include the Union Boundary, Jenks Gazette, Tulsa Free Press, Owasso Rambler, Broken Arrow Express and Bixby Breeze.

The 2007 awards received were given for an automotive ad and GTR’s Community Calendar.

Past awards GTR Newspapers have won include best local business coverage, best sports coverage, best Web site design and best advertisement in the shopping category.

“Our mission,” says GTR publisher D. Forrest Cameron, “is to provide metropolitan Tulsa area readers and advertisers with interesting targeted local news and information at reasonable advertising rates and produced by professional writers, editors and graphic artists.

“I appreciate the work and dedication of our staff and contributors. We are striving to have the best newspaper anywhere for the great people of greater Tulsa.”

The GTR Newspapers staff includes Co-Publisher Sharon Cameron, Marketing and Sales Manager eLiz Hollis, Assistant Editor Miranda Enzor, Contributing Editor David Jones, Associate Editor Charles Cantrell, Art Director Bryan Cantrell, Graphic Designers Linda Murphy and Alicia Shrum. Contributing writers include Oklahoma Jazz Hall of Fame CEO Chuck Cissel, Isabella’s Owner Kim Abdo, Dean Clark and John W. Barham. Contributing photographers are Jerry Cornelius and Harry Lentz.
