Nearly 13,000 Tulsa Golden Hurricane and Oklahoma Sooner fans headed to the BOK Center on Dec. 7 to see the first college game ever to be played in the downtown Tulsa facility.
OU fans came away happy as TU fans were sobered by the amazing play of All-American forward Blake Griffin. The certain-to-be future NBA star led his team to an easy 69-44 win, embarrassing the hometown team.
Scouts from 21 NBA teams watched Griffin score 19 points. He also held Tulsa’s center, Jerome Jordan, to only seven points. The Golden Hurricane started off cold and turned the ball over 21 times, falling behind the Number 6 Sooners 20-3 in the early going. TU never recovered in a disappointing performance. Tulsa rebounded Dec. 10 with a 70-67 win over Missouri State.
