GTR Debate Series Begins at Press Club

Greater Tulsa Reporter Newspapers Publisher D. Forrest Cameron has announced the first Yin Yang Debate Series event, which will be held at the Tulsa Press Club Tuesday, Feb. 1 from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.

The first “Debate by the Bar at the Tulsa Press Club” will feature OU-Tulsa President Dr. Gerard Clancy defending the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act. His opposition will soon be announced. The audience will also be asked to participate. Dr. Richard Wansley of Tulsa will be the moderator.

The Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act (PPACA) is a federal statute that was signed into United States law by President Barack Obama on March 23, 2010. Along with the Health Care and Education Reconciliation Act of 2010 (signed into law on March 30, 2010), the Act is the product of the health care reform agenda of the Democratic 111th Congress and the Obama administration. PPACA passed the Senate on December 24, 2009, by a vote of 60-39 with all Democrats and Independents voting for, and all Republicans voting against. It passed the House of Representatives on March 21, 2010, by a vote of 219-212, with all 178 Republicans and 34 Democrats voting against the bill. At the time of the vote, there were four vacancies in the House.
For information about the Feb. 1 event, please call the Tulsa Press Club at 918-583-7737 or Newspapers at 918-254-1515.

The Yin Yang Debate Series at the Tulsa Press Club is scheduled to be a quarterly event with relevant topics of interest to people of the area.
