GTR Student Athlete of the Month: Madeline Berry, Riverfield Upper School

MADELINE BERRY


The March 2011 Student Athlete of the Month is Madeline Berry of Riverfield Upper School. Berry was the captain and leading scorer for Riverfield Lady Ravens this season. She averaged 10 ppg and 4.5 assists and was the only senior starter on a team of mainly freshmen and sophomores.

Berry has been on the Honor Roll every semester of high school, holding a 4.0 the entire way, and has received numerous class awards including the History, Science, English, and Spanish Awards. She is president of the Raven chapter of the National Honor Society.

She is a member of the Tulsa Youth Orchestra (clarinet) and has volunteered for Blue Star Mothers, Tulsa Community Food Bank, and Catholic Charities. On campus Berry helped start the Spanish Club, is the yearbook editor and in the Home Economics club. She was previously the photo editor for the yearbook.

In addition to basketball, Berry has played volleyball, softball and karate.

Berry has already taken calculus at Tulsa Community College for college and high school credit. She has been accepted to Salve Regina University, Sewanee: The University Of The South and the University of Oklahoma. She has been offered scholarships at all three schools and accepted into the Honors College at OU. If she attends Sewanee, she will play basketball.

Jason Bogle, Director of Athletics at Riverfield holds Berry in the highest regard, saying, “Madeline is the personification of the student-athlete. She is an excellent student, a first-class person and a competitor in the athletic arena.” Toby Clark, the division head says she is, “probably the best student I have ever had and I have been doing this for 20 years.”
