Harris, James Make FWAA All-America Team
DALLAS, Tex. — University of Oregon running back LaMichael James and return specialist Cliff Harris have been named to the 67th Football Writers Association of America All-America.
James, a native of Texarkana, Texas, leads the Football Bowl Subdivision with 1,682 rushing yards and 21 rushing touchdowns, while fellow sophomore Harris has an -best four punt returns for touchdowns. The Fresno, Calif., product ranks second in the country in punt returning with an average of 19.5 yards while leading the country in passes defended with 20 from his cornerback position.
For James, who was already a consensus All-American prior to Saturday’s announcement of the team, the honor was his third this season. Should he make the other two squads formally recognized by the – the Associated Press and Sporting News – he would become the school’s first unanimous All-American.
The first All-America award for Harris comes after he was named All-Pac-10 at punt returner by the conference coaches earlier in the week. He is the first Oregon player to win the award as a return specialist.
James, a Heisman Trophy finalist, won the Doak Walker Award on Thursday as the nation’s top running back.
Oregon has now had two players receive All-America honors in the same season four times. Cornerback Herman O’Berry and safety Chad Cota in 1994 were the last duo to earn that distinction prior to this year.
