Hideaway Pizza Announces 2008 Oklahoma Collage Project Theme, Deadlines

Each year organizers of the Oklahoma Collage Project, sponsored by Hideaway Pizza, select a theme to pique the interest and imaginations of the participants vying for part of the $10,000 prize money. The 2008 theme is “Field, Forest and Stream: Oklahomans and the Outdoors.”

“We are always amazed and delighted with the creativity and talent demonstrated by our entrants,” says Janie Harris, marketing director of Hideaway Pizza. “We hope to receive many wonderful collages focused on Oklahoma’s natural wonders and the relationships our citizens have with nature.”

The Oklahoma Collage Project began in 2000 when Hideaway Pizza sponsored “Collage 2000” to celebrate the millennium. At the request of the Oklahoma Centennial Commission, the project was extended in 2001 and was endorsed by the Oklahoma Historical Society and Oklahoma’s State School Superintendent Sandy Garrett.

The Oklahoma History Center and “Oklahoma Today” magazine partnered with the restaurant to continue presenting the collage competition in 2008 and beyond.

Oklahoma Today Publisher Joan Henderson, a regular judge for the project, saw tremendous value in the work created by students and individuals from all corners of the state who participated each year.

“It’s a pride builder,” she says. “Oklahoma Today touches every county and community in Oklahoma and this project has too.”
Bob Blackburn, executive director of the Oklahoma History Center, also viewed the partnership to continue the project as good sense.

“This project does for Oklahoma what the History Center does for the state. It creates a sense of community and reflects something about who we are as a state and a people.”

Winning collages will be presented alongside the annual exhibit, and OHC will host judging, award ceremonies and initial exhibits of all entries.

Over 600 entries were received over the past eight years, and eight of the top previous winners are currently on exhibit at the Hideaway Pizza in Stillwater. Winners from the 2007 competition are currently on display at the seven other Hideaway Pizza locations across Oklahoma.

The deadline for registration is Feb. 1. The submission deadline is March 1 in Oklahoma City for the western half of the state and March 2 in Tulsa for the eastern half of the state. A state exhibition will follow at the Oklahoma History Center and the State Capitol. The official Web site for the Oklahoma Collage Project is www.collage2000.com.

Additional information, including registration, guidelines and past winners, can be found on the site. Participants also can register via U.S. mail c/o The Oklahoma Collage Project, P.O. Box 18355, Oklahoma City, OK 73154-0355.
