As winter returns, it brings with it the holiday shopping season and the Buy Bixby program. The popular campaign encourages local residents to shop local, offering a chance to win up to $10,000 and boosting the community in the process.
As in years past, participating retailers give out tickets to customers, which increase their chances to win the big prize. Each customer is eligible for one ticket per purchase and up to 100 tickets for purchases up to $1,000. The promotion ends Dec. 15, after which winning tickets will be selected and posted on the Buy Bixby website, buybixby.com. Prizes include a Cox bundle, four $1,000 awards and a grand prize of $10,000 cash.
Participating retailers include many well-known stores and services. Lowe’s, Reasors and Walgreens are among the more recognizable stores handing out tickets. Big item retailers, like Robertson Tire, Mattress King and North Carolina Furniture Mart offer customers a chance at collecting a handful of tickets with one visit. Many area restaurants are also catching the Buy Bixby bug. Visit buybixby.com for a full list of participating stores.
Cookie Advantage is another Buy Bixby participant. The locally-based company provides customer-care tins filled with chocolate chip cookies that can be shipped across the country.
During the holiday season, Cookie Advantage offers its traditional gourmet chocolate chip cookies as well as gourmet pecan chocolate chip and white chocolate macadamia nut cookies in holiday-themed tins. The tin also includes a holiday message card with the business customer’s logo with the cookie recipe on the back of the card.
Other holiday shopping options can be found throughout the city, particularly along the Memorial Drive corridor. With convenient access on the north end, it is common for shoppers from Tulsa and Broken Arrow to take advantage of the last free exit on the Creek Turnpike, drawing even more revenue for the community. Big Box stores like Wal-Mart and Target bookend the shopping district, but smaller specialty shops are filling in the gaps.
Southern Crossing, located at the northwest corner of 111th Street and Memorial Drive, has provided many independent retailers with storefronts. including independent store Legends Bicycles. This one-stop shop for all biking needs carries a great selection to suit every age and purpose from cruisers to mountain bikes. They will be celebrating the 12 Days of Christmas with ongoing sales throughout the month of December.
On the east side of Memorial Drive is South Park shopping center, a sprawling district that boasts a variety of storefronts offering everything from drum lessons and day spas to casual dining. Another example is South Park Florist, which offers a large selection of fresh cut flowers and specials on a dozen roses.
Whether searching for unique gifts at independent stores or checking off multiple names at the big box retailers, Bixby makes it easy to stay south of the Creek Turnpike and avoid the chaos of South Tulsa. And, with Buy Bixby in full swing, some fortunate individuals will find themselves celebrating more than the just holidays with a pocket full of cash. However, Buy Bixby ensures that everyone wins. When local money remains in the local economy, everyone in the community benefits.
