Honky Tonk country icon Dwight Yoakam sets Tulsa stop on Feb. 4

TULSA, Okla. – More than two decades into a career of entertaining audiences on stage and in film, country star Dwight Yoakam is set to perform on Feb. 4 at The Joint located inside Hard Rock Hotel & Casino Tulsa.
Tickets start at $45 and go on sale Dec. 23.
Since 1986, Yoakam has released 22 albums and compilations that have earned him more than 25 million in sales and included more than 30 singles that have climbed the Billboard Hot Country Songs charts.
Yoakam has charted 14 songs in the Top 10, including “Honky Tonk Man,” “Streets of Bakersfield,” “I Sang Dixie,” “Ain’t That Lonely Yet,” “A Thousand Miles from Nowhere” and “Fast as You.”
After failing to find success in Nashville, Yoakam took his Honky Tonk sound to Los Angeles in the early ‘80s and began playing in rock and punk clubs in the area, where his popularity grew. In 1986, the commercial re-release of his independent debut, “Guitars, Cadillacs, Etc., Etc.” hit No. 1 on the charts and launched his career. His debut was followed by two more No. 1 releases, “Hillbilly Deluxe” and “Buenas Noches From a Lonely Room.”
Not only has Yoakam penned some of the most popular country songs of the last 25 years, but he’s also found success covering songs from a wide spectrum of artists. Those recordings include Elvis Presley’s “Suspicious Minds,” Queen’s “Crazy Little Thing Called Love,” Cheap Trick’s “I Want You to Want Me,” Clash’s “Train in Vain,” and the Grateful Dead track “Truckin’.” Yoakam’s career has gone beyond the recording studio as he’s also found success in Hollywood, appearing in many films. His work in “Sling Blade” and “Panic Room” earned Yoakam critical acclaim for his gritty portrayals of an abusive alcoholic and a sociopathic killer, respectively. He has also appeared in the recent hits “Wedding Crashers” and “Four Christmases.”
