It might not be warm enough yet for Tulsa Performing Arts Center Trust’s annual Summer Stage, but TPACT will provide more than enough entertainment in the coming months to keep theater patrons toasty indoors while enjoying a wide array of performances.
Enjoy the firey sounds of California on Feb. 24 with “Hot Club of San Francisco” in the John H. Williams Theatre at 7 p.m. Hot Club of San Francisco is an ensemble of accomplished musicians celebrating the music of Django Reinhardt and Stephane Grappelli’s Hot Club de France. The ensemble borrows string instrumentation of violin, bass and guitars from the original Hot Club but breathes new life into the music with innovative arrangements of classic tunes and original compositions. Live, the ensemble will transport listeners to the sounds of small, smoky jazz clubs of 1930s Paris or the refined lounges of the family gypsy jazz at Hotel Ritz. Tickets are $30-35.
Travel to the hot sands of the Sahara with the Armchair Traveler’s “Egypt: In the Footsteps of Moses” by Dennis Burkhart on Feb. 25. This film will be shown at 2 and 7:30 p.m. in the John H. Williams Theatre. Viewers can explore the ancient wonders of Egypt’s Pharaohs, the Bible, Greeks, Muslims and early Christians, cruise the Nile to magestic temples and take a look at some of the oldest Christian churches and Islamic mosques in the world. The Armchair Traveler’s series features travel films offering Tulsans the experience of adventure without the hassle of packing. This season’s itinerary features favorite travel destinations from the Rivieras to Russia. Tickets are $8.
Enjoy a cozy evening or afternoon with childhood literary favorite Madeline when TPACT presents “Madeline and the Bad Hat” Feb. 29 at 7 p.m. and March 1 at 11 a.m. Both performances will be held in the John H. Williams Theatre. Based on the book and original musical, “Madeline and the Bad Hat” tells the tale of what happens when the Spanish Ambassador moves in next door and Madeline knows right away his son, Pepito, is what she calls a “bad hat.” A study guide designed for the classroom is available to parents in the “Educational Event” section of TPACT’s Web site, www.TulsaPacTrust.org. Tickets are $8.
