HP to Boost Tulsa-region Workforce by 65
Global information technology firm Hewlett Packard is adding 65 high-quality jobs at its locally-based Enterprise Services hub, boosting the Tulsa area’s IT-sector growth.
HP plans to add jobs over the next two years to its transportation-related operations based at its Tulsa offices. The positions will have an average annual wage of $65,000. Currently, HP employs about 800 in Tulsa.
“This is a very exciting time for HP Enterprise Services Transportation Industry and the city of Tulsa,” said Wes Mitchell, director of data center services at HP Enterprise Service. “HP ES in Tulsa has always been the core of transportation technology in the world, managing more than 70 percent of U.S. air travel. These jobs represent HP ES’s continued commitment to Tulsa and technology innovation in the transportation industry.”
Growing the number of high-quality information technology jobs in northeast Oklahoma is a goal of the Tulsa Regional Chamber’s economic development efforts, and the HP announcement will greatly enhance the area’s growing IT sector, said Justin McLaughlin, senior vice president of economic development for the Tulsa Regional Chamber.
“These high-quality jobs will elevate our region’s standing as a growing hub for IT and related industries,” McLaughlin said. “HP’s continued success in the Tulsa region will serve as a catalyst for further economic growth centered around high-tech fields.”
Tulsa Mayor Dewey Bartlett also congratulated HP and touted the Tulsa area’s business-friendly climate.
“HP’s decision to expand its local workforce is tremendous news for the Tulsa area and reinforces the fact that Tulsa is a place where companies can grow and thrive,” Bartlett said. “We congratulate this outstanding company on its success, and we look forward to continued growth in our region’s high-tech sectors.”
A hiring event has been planned for Jan. 23 to assist HP in finding talented Tulsa-region residents to help fill new positions created at the company’s Tulsa offices. The event is from noon to 4 p.m. at Tulsa Tech’s Owasso Campus, 10800 N. 140th East Ave. For more information about the job openings, visit www.hp.jobs
