Hurricane Busy During Spring

WELCOME BACK: Todd Graham, who served from 2003 to 2005 as the University of Tulsa assistant head coach, returns this year as the head coach of Tulsa’s football program. In 2006 as head coach he led Rice University to its first bowl bid in 45 years and was named Conference USA’s coach of the year.

Something old and something new spent much of April preparing a gift for University of Tulsa football fans.

Todd Graham, for three years assistant head coach under Steve Kragthorpe, was back after a one-year hiatus at Rice University where he led the Owls to their first bowl game in 45 years and was named the Conference USA coach of the year. He has one huge advantage over most incoming coaches in that he knows TU football and many of the returning players from his previous three-year stay.

Graham is being joined by Gus Malzahn, a successful Arkansas high school coach (he has two state championships to his credit) who last year was the offensive coordinator of the Arkansas Razorbacks and helped lead that team to a 10-4 record. He was named the Rivals.com offensive coordinator of the year.

Graham has long been known as a defensive genius who helped change a woebegone Hurricane team that had won only two games in two years into a bowl-bound gridiron beast. Malzahn is installing a no-huddle offense that will demand prime physical conditioning of each member of the Hurricane squad and will leave unprepared opponents gasping for breath.

The upcoming season looks to be a challenging one with not only the tough Conference USA schedule but also non-conference games against Brigham Young and Oklahoma. Season tickets are now on sale at the University of Tulsa ticket office. Call (918) 631-GOTU or visit www.tulsahurricane.com for ticket information.
