Jenks High School Student Earns Perfect ACT Score
PERFECTION: Jenks High School student Victor Zhu is all smiles after achieving perfection on the ACT test
Victor Zhu is the latest Jenks High School student to achieve perfection on a college entrance exam. The 17-year old earned a flawless score of 36 on the ACT after taking the test in July.
“I thought I had a 50-50 chance of getting a 36, and I was really excited when I finally saw my score,” Zhu recalled. “The first thing I did was text my parents and they were so happy.”
Zhu, a senior who has been attending Jenks Public Schools since third grade, started taking his ACT preparation seriously as a middle school student. He took his first mock exam in seventh grade and completed his second practice test as a sophomore. Zhu also managed to record a 1550 on the SAT and was recently named a National Merit Semifinalist, ranking him academically among the top one percent of all high school seniors in the nation.
“I think Jenks has a great educational system and I’ve really enjoyed how I’ve been able to combine classes in the STEM fields with classes in the humanities,” stated Zhu. “I’ve had so many options available to me in terms of courses and activities. It has given me a broad perspective and prepared me well for what comes next.”
Zhu is keeping his options open when it comes to choosing a college, but says he plans to become a Pre-Med major. In addition to his test-taking capabilities, Zhu participates in the JHS Speech and Debate program, the Academic Team, and gives back to the community as a member of Key Club. Math is one of Zhu’s favorite subjects and he volunteers his time as a coach for the Math Counts team at Jenks Middle School.
“For me, doing well on the ACT all came down to preparation,” Zhu said. “The COVID lockdown gave me even more time to study, but without all the practice, I don’t think I would have had a shot at a perfect score.”
