“Karate Stan” premieres to launch film festival for Stand for Stan effort
ST. LOUIS, MO – June 17, 2010 – The St. Louis Cardinals are encouraging fans to take part in the Flat Stan the Man Film Festival on the team’s website (cardinals.com/stan) as part of Stand for Stan, a grassroots, fan-centered campaign to celebrate Stan Musial’s lifetime of achievement and service.
“The Stand for Stan campaign has been enthusiastically embraced by our fans and continues to gain momentum”, said Bill DeWitt , the President of the Cardinals. “The Flat Stan the Man Film Festival is another way for fans to celebrate Stan Musial, have some fun and Stand for Stan.”
Through the festival, the Cardinals are challenging fans to get creative and post their own short Flat Stan the Man web-based film on the Cardinals website. To help spur fan creativity, Fredbird and Flat Stan the Man have produced their own film, “The Karate Stan” – a parody of the popular Karate Kid films. Fans can view the film at cardinals.com/stan and learn more about how they can get involved.
Since Stand for Stan was launched via the team’s Twitter site (MLBSTLCardinals) on May 25th, over 14,000 fans have signed the on-line petition to President Obama, over 1,100 have signed up to follow the campaign on Twitter (#standforstan) and Flat Stan the Man has been spotted all over the globe with fans Standing for Stan. The team also reports over 40,000 page views on cardinals.com/stan.
