KUDOS OF THE MONTH: Iron Gate Tulsa

WARM MEAL: The soup kitchen at Iron Gate Tulsa served many in need on Oct. 10, known as World Homeless Action Day.
Iron Gate in Tulsa, located at Trinity Episcopal Church since 1984, has been providing warm, filling meals for those in need for many years. The organization has reached out in a variety of ways.
The soup kitchen welcomes everyone to enjoy good company while eating a filling meal. Currently, 500-600 meals are served each day in the soup kitchen.
The food pantry also provides food for families throughout the community. Volunteers distribute grocery bags every Friday and Saturday morning. More than 180 bags of food are enjoyed by more than 18,000 families each week.
Iron Gate also provides comfort items for those in need. In excessive heat, volunteers hand out bottled water and, in the winter months, they supply socks, hats, gloves and blankets. Hygiene kits, holiday meals and telephone use are also available.
The organization is privately funded and non-denominational. Partnering organizations include Veterans Association, Catholic Charities, Day Center, Indian Health Care, Baptist Caring Center, 2-1-1 and the Mental Health Association.
Volunteers are always greatly appreciated. For more information, visit www.irongatetulsa.org or call 918-359-9001.
