KUDOS OF THE MONTH: JDRF Tulsa Chapter

The Tulsa Chapter of the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation International has raised funds and awareness for those in the community who have diabetes.

The chapter was established in 1996 when two mothers who have children with diabetes decided to reach out to others in the community. Today, hundreds of volunteers and a dedicated board of directors help to continue their mission.

There are two major fundraisers that are organized every year including the Walk to Cure Diabetes and the Promise Ball.

Walk to Cure Diabetes was held Oct. 15 and brought the entire community together. The pathway wound through the OU-Tulsa campus and boasted a Hollywood theme. A group of the walkers is shown in the photo above.

The Promise Ball trades sneakers and walking for high heels and dancing. Tickets and sponsorships raise funds for the foundation.

In addition, the chapter also works to encourage government advocacy, education and outreach.
