KUDOS OF THE MONTH: Leadership Tulsa
After celebrating its major milestone of 40 years in 2013, Leadership Tulsa is looking to the future and counting the many ways it impacts the Tulsa community through its mission to identify and develop diverse leaders who impact the community through service.
Its highly successful flagship program is now offered twice a year and serves leaders of all ages who are selected through a competitive application process. Throughout their nine-month journey, they meet with Tulsa’s top city leaders, tour the city’s most innovative and forgotten corners, discuss the opportunities and challenges the community faces, and hone their leadership skills. Each participant also serves on a local nonprofit board of directors. Nearly 100 agencies benefit from this influx of new leadership each year.
With the launch of its Class 52 in September, Leadership Tulsa has had more than 2,800 people participate in its various programs since the organization’s inception in 1973.
“Leadership Tulsa continues to thrive today because individuals want to feel connected to the community in which they live, understand the complexities of public policy issues, make an impact, and develop and be recognized for their leadership talents,” says Executive Director Wendy Thomas. Thomas encourages any individuals who share these goals to call Leadership Tulsa and get involved.
