KUDOS OF THE MONTH: The Salvation Army

BELL RINGERS: Volunteering to ring the bell at the Walmart in Bixby recently are Rotary Club of Tulsa members Cheryl Northness and Michael Hairston.

The Salvation Army has made a meaningful impact on the community since 1906. With the mission of ministering to those in need, the organization continues to hold strong today.

During the holiday season, The Salvation Army reaches out to the area in a number of ways. One of the most notable is through creating The Angel Tree. This very special Christmas tree is decorated with cards, which spotlight a child’s gift wishes. Shoppers add a few extra gifts to their list for these children and place them under the tree.

Another important role that the organization has during the holidays is to collect monetary donations throughout the area. Each year, volunteers ring bells near the symbolic red kettles in front of stores. Donations help to provide meals, gifts, assistance and senior care among other needs. All of the funds remain in the town of collection.
