KUDOS OF THE MONTH: Family and Children’s Services
Eighty years ago, the founders of Family & Children’s Services looked at Tulsa and saw families in need of support and relief. Eighty years later, the agency is still on the job, fulfilling its mission with perseverance, vision and hope for the next 80 years.
From its beginnings as the primary relief agency in the city as the Family Welfare Society of Tulsa to today, Family & Children’s Services continues to provide support, relief and a host of other services to families, children and individuals in need. Over the past 80 years, programs have expanded and the agency has moved into a new home, but the greatest change can be seen in the thousands of people the agency has served, helped and healed.
As one of the premier human service providers in northeastern Oklahoma, the agency provides counseling services, parenting education, child abuse prevention and treatment, literacy programs, marriage and family strengthening programs, early childhood services, community and school-based services, and mental health services for adults and children. The agency has 10 offices throughout Tulsa and in the surrounding communities of Broken Arrow, Claremore and Sapulpa.
To mark the 80th anniversary milestone, Family & Children’s Services has created a new logo to better represent its promise to the community. The new logo speaks to the life- changing work of the agency—butterflies are transformed from their cocoon stronger, radiant and in flight. This symbol of change and renewal evokes the hopes of the clients the agency serves. Working side-by-side with the community, Family & Children’s Services pledges to carry on its life-changing work for another 80 years.
