Tulsa Opera presents Giuseppe Verdi’s La Traviata, starring acclaimed American Soprano Kelly Kaduce and talented young Tenor Joshua Kohl in their Tulsa Opera debuts.
Performances of La Traviata will be held in the Chapman Music Hall of the Tulsa Performing Arts Center on Saturday, Oct. 9, and Friday, Oct. 15, at 7:30 p.m. and a matinee on Sunday, Oct. 17 at 2:30 p.m. The opera will be performed in the original Italian with English language supertitles projected above the stage at every performance.
Written by Giuseppe Verdi, La Traviata is based on the novel “La dame aux camélias” by Alexandre Dumas. It is perhaps Verdi’s most romantic and intimate creation. It is host to some of his most beloved melodies: the famous brindisi “Libiamo”; Violetta’s show-stopping cabaletta “Sempre Libera”; and the bittersweet duet “Parigi, o cara.”
Set in nineteenth-century Paris, Verdi’s La Traviata chronicles the ill-fated romance of Violetta Valéry and Alfredo Germont. Forced to decide between her independence and her true love, Violetta chooses the latter. However, Alfredo’s father, Giorgio, soon intervenes in their relationship, with devastating consequences.
