Late Run Puts 66ers Over Fort Wayne
TULSA, Okla., Jan. 7, 2011— The Tulsa 66ers (13-6) used a 20-7 run with four minutes remaining in the fourth quarter to put away the Fort Wayne Mad Ants (11-7) 119-106 Friday evening inside the Tulsa Convention Center. The victory marked Tulsa’s fifth straight and its 10th in the last 12 games.
Latavious Williams posted a season-high 27 points on 12-of-16 shooting to lead the 66ers in scoring. Jerome Dyson and Elijah Millsap posted 25 and 22 points, respectively, and Cole Aldrich tallied three points and eight rebounds in 12 minutes of action.
Also scoring in double-figures for Tulsa was Ryan Reid and Tweety Carter with 13 each.
“We are playing well as a team, but we can’t forget why we’re playing well,” 66ers head coach Nate Tibbetts said. “We have to continue with the process of playing defense and playing hard on every possession. I think when teams at this level get away from that, they forget and start hunting shots. We can’t do that. We have to stay committed to one another and improving every day.”
Tulsa outrebounded Fort Wayne by a 47-40 clip. Ryan Reid led the 66ers with nine boards.
Offensively, Tulsa collected 27 assists and shot 40-77 (.519) from the floor, including 9-18 (.500) from beyond the arc.
Larry Owens led the team with six assists and the 66ers tallied a 30-7 edge in fast break points.
Fort Wayne’s Marvin Phillips posted a double-double with 18 points and 14 rebounds and Oliver Lafayette led the team in points with 22. Also scoring in double figures was Chris Kramer with 17, Darnell Lazare with 14 and Roderick Wilmont with 12.
Tulsa will return to the court tomorrow evening, Jan. 8th, when it travels to Frisco to take on the Texas Legends at 7 p.m. CT inside Dr. Pepper Arena. The 66ers are 2-1 this season against the Legends, all on the road.
