Left-handed pitcher Franklin Morales reinstated from 15-day disabled list


DENVER — The Colorado Rockies announced today that the club has reinstated left-handed pitcher Franklin Morales from the 15-day disabled list (left shoulder inflammation). Additionally, right-handed pitcher Esmil Rogers has been optioned to Triple-A Colorado Springs. Morales will be in uniform and available for tonight’s game at San Francisco (8:15 p.m. ).

Morales, 24, is 0-3 with a 4.09 (11.0 ip, 5 er) in 12 appearances for the Rockies. Primarily used as a late-inning reliever, Morales is 3-for-5 in save opportunities this season. He converted his last save opportunity on April 22 at Washington and did not have another save opportunity before being placed on the DL on May 12. Morales last pitched on Wednesday, May 5, at San Diego. Morales made two scoreless appearances (5.0 innings) on his rehab assignment with Triple-A Colorado Springs. He allowed 2 hits and 1 walk with 7 strikeouts in his 5.0 innings for the Sky Sox. The left-hander has made 50 consecutive relief appearances since July 7, 2009 (2-5, 4.60 , 10-for-13 in save opportunities). Prior to then he had made all 15 of his Major League appearances as a starter (5-4, 4.46 ).

Rogers, 24, is 1-2 with a 5.32 (23.2 ip, 14 er) in 11 games/2 starts for the Rockies. Following consecutive starting assignments on May 1st and 7th, Rogers has pitched strictly out of the Rockies bullpen. He is 1-1 with a 3.60 (15.0 ip, 6 er) in his 9 relief appearances, and 0-1 with an 8.31 (8. 2ip, 8 er) in his 2 starts for Colorado this season. A member of the Rockies Opening Day roster for the first time, Rogers will begin his 2nd stint with the Sky Sox this season. He went 0-0 with a 0.90 (10.0 ip, 1 er) in his 2 starts for the Sky Sox from April 19-25.

The Rockies continue to have 38-players on the 40-man roster.
