Letters Brighten Spirits

SEASON WISHES: The Owasso Community Center has been collecting letters and holiday cards for troops. From left, Phyllis Frye and Marie Crosby.

The Owasso Community Center is hosting Letters from the Heart. This program is designed for all ages to communicate love, respect and appreciation through writing letters of encouragement to troops. The letters are collected at the community center and then picked up by the Blue Star Mothers who then include the letters in the care boxes they send to the troops every month.

The community is encouraged to participate in the program. There are a few guidelines to follow when writing the letters. Full names or addresses should not be included in the letters. Stamps and envelopes should not be used since the Blue Star Mothers will be placing the letters in packages.

Uplifting words from the heart are a nice way to bring a smile to the troops. Suggested topics to include in the letters are about the writer, family and the writer’s community. Newspaper clippings or coloring pages from the young ones in a family are also encouraged.

Letters should be brought to the Owasso Community Center at 301 S. Cedar and dropped off in the collection basket.

Letters may be dropped off at anytime. For more information, call (918) 272-3903.
