Lladro Artist Visits Nielsens
Sculptor Ernest Massuet will visit Nielsens Exclusive Gifts, located at 81st Street and Lewis Avenue, on Oct. 21 from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Admirers will have the unique opportunity to experience the process of creation of a Lladró piece through the hands of a sculptor from the City of Porcelain in Valencia, Spain, where all the Lladró sculptures are created.
Massuet is the artist behind some of the most beautiful and poetic creations in the history of the company, such as You’re My Angel, Arabian Pure Breed, Amor et Desiderium and Lord Ganesha among many others.
During the events, Nielsens will also present Massuet’s most recent creation, Sunset at the Pier, a contemporary sculpture of a young lady seated on a pier during the magic hour of sunset, next to the water and touched by a warm breeze that suspends her on a dream of thoughts. The piece transports the viewer to a serene atmosphere of meditation and encounter with the inner feelings.
After graduating in Graphic Design from the Elisava School in Barcelona, Massuet worked as a designer in several advertising companies, at the Warner Bros studio in Barcelona, and as an illustrator for the Diari de Barcelona daily newspaper. Driven by his creative curiosity, Massuet quit the professional practice of graphic design. Around the same time he was awarded two scholarships: one at Fundació del Centre del Vidre and the other at Cercle Artístic de Sant Lluc. He studied sculpture for one year at the School of Arts and Crafts of Barcelona. In 1997, at the age of 27, he obtained a Lladró scholarship. After three years of training, he joined the company as a sculptor.
Lladró was established by the brothers Juan, José and Vicente Lladró in 1953, and currently holds a presence in over 120 countries.
