Made in Oklahoma Coalition partners with Wal-Mart to promote local products


OKLAHOMA – The Made in Oklahoma Coalition () and Wal-Mart Stores, Inc. have teamed up to promote locally produced food products at select Oklahoma supercenters and neighborhood markets statewide throughout the month of October. products are tagged with special labels and are prominently featured in displays and aisles in the stores.

“Wal-Mart’s commitment to support Made in Oklahoma products helps us meet our goal of promoting and maintaining brand awareness of locally produced food in Oklahoma,” said Richard Wasson, executive director of Made in Oklahoma Coalition. “MIO member companies truly benefit from our partnership with Wal-Mart.”

The following companies carry products that are featured in stores statewide: Advance Brands; Bar-S Foods; Chef’s Requested; Clements Foods Company; Field’s Pies; Griffin Foods Company; Head Country; Hiland Dairy Company; JC Potter Sausage Company; Ralph’s Packing Company; Schwab Meat Company and Shawnee Milling Company.

paper towels, a locally manufactured product, are also featured in the promotion. Proceeds from the sale of paper towels supports the Food for Kids Backpack Program administered by the Regional Food Bank of Oklahoma and the Community Food Bank of Eastern Oklahoma. Since March 2009, paper towel sales have generated more than $70,000 adding more than 350 children to the program.
