TALONS CHAMPIONSHIP: It seems like yesterday when Talons Co-Owner Paul Ross and I accepted the Arena Cup in the Bossier City CenturyTel Arena last August. The Talons defeated the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Pioneers for the championship in a thrilling 73-66 game.

March is coming in like a lion and with the month are two big sporting events: the Summit Conference Men’s and Women’s Basketball Tournament March 8-11 and the opening of the Champion Tulsa Talons 2008 season March 29 against the Amarillo Dusters.
Summit Tournament
The John Q. Hammons Arena at the UMAC will be the site of the 2008 Summit League Conference Men’s and Women’s Basketball Championships. The tournament begins on Saturday, March 8 and continues through Tuesday, March 11 with the men’s and women’s finals. The Women’s Final is at 2:30 p.m. and the Men’s final is at 6:30 p.m.
This tournament is an opportunity for the ORU men’s and women’s teams to showcase their talent and to go on to the NCAA Tournament.
I have been close to the tournament as a member of the Tulsa Sports Commission, which works to enhance sports in greater Tulsa.
Single-Session tickets will be available starting March 5 and will be $16. All-Session ticket packages are now on sale, with prices starting at $55 for all 14 tournament games. Tickets can be purchased at the Mabee Center ticket office or by visiting www.mabeecenter.com.
All fans that frequent Billy’s on the Square at 424 S. Main St. in downtown Tulsa on any Friday (Feb. 22, 29 and March 7) before the tournament and make a food purchase can present their receipt to the Mabee Center or UMAC ticket office for $5 off an All-Session ticket.
To purchase tickets, visit the Mabee Center box office or charge by phone at (918) 495-6000 or (800) 678-1353. Contact Mike Dodson at (918) 560-0273 for tournament sponsorship information.
Talons Season
The arenafootball2 Champion Tulsa Talons are looking forward to the new season again under head coach Mitch Allner and Assistant Coach Marty Robinson. Both coaches return after the record-breaking 2007 season, which saw a 14-2 regular season record, three playoff wins and the ArenaCup Championship! Check the schedule on this page and call (918) 294-1000 or check the Web site at www.tulsatalons.com for more information.
Catholic Charities
We are overjoyed that the funds have been raised by the Diocese of Tulsa to build the Catholic Charities campus at North Harvard Avenue, just south of Apache Street. The groundbreaking ceremony will be held March 25. This is a very worthy organization doing much good for those in need. To learn more, see www.catholiccharitiestulsa.org.
